The sun is shining, the soil is warm, and the garden is bursting with life! We are absolutely thrilled to invite our neighborhood families, young readers, and budding green thumbs to this week’s edition of Summer Garden Story Time. If you have been looking for the perfect mid-week afternoon activity that combines a love for reading with the wonders of nature, you have officially found it.

What’s Growing This Week?

This week, we are getting our hands dirty and diving headfirst into the magical process of how a simple seed transforms into a brilliant blossom. Gardening teaches children patience, care, and curiosity, and we can’t wait to share that experience with your little ones.

We will kick off our hour together under the shade with a wonderfully interactive read-aloud of Plant the Tiny Seed by Christie Matheson. This charming book is a favorite for young minds because it invites children to tap the pages, clap, wiggle their fingers, and actively help a seed grow right before their eyes. It is a beautiful reminder of the magic hidden inside a tiny speck of earth.

Get Ready to Get Your Hands Dirty!

After our story, it’s time to move from the pages to the soil. We are putting on our gardening hats and planting our very own Zinnias. Zinnias are famously cheerful, resilient, and fast-growing flowers that butterflies absolutely adore. Every child will get the opportunity to plant their own seed, learn how to care for it, and take a piece of the garden home to watch it bloom throughout the rest of the summer.

🌦️ Rain or Shine, We Have You Covered!

We love soaking up the fresh garden air, but if the summer skies decide to surprise us with afternoon showers, our fun won’t stop! If it rains, we will move the entire event to the cozy and welcoming Chocorua Public Library.

Whether your child is an experienced little helper in your backyard patch or has never touched a trowel before, this event is free, open to all, and designed for everyone. Come ready to learn, play, and grow with us.
