Summer Garden Storytime: Welcome Hummingbirds to the Garden!

There is something magical about spotting a hummingbird darting through a garden. Their dazzling colors, lightning-fast wings, and playful personalities make them one of nature’s most exciting visitors. Join Chocorua Public Library today, Wednesday, July 22, from 3:00–4:00 PM, for another exciting Summer Garden Storytime as we celebrate these incredible little birds!

This week’s adventure takes place in the Pollinator Garden at K.A. Brett School (with a rain location at the Chocorua Public Library). Surrounded by blooming flowers and buzzing pollinators, children and families will discover why hummingbirds are so important to our gardens and how we can help them thrive.

Our featured books are Brave Baby Hummingbird and Ivy and the Hummingbird, two delightful stories that introduce young readers to the courage, curiosity, and beauty of these amazing birds. Through engaging storytelling, children will learn about hummingbird habitats, the flowers they love, and the important role they play as pollinators.

After storytime, everyone will have the opportunity to create their own Hummingbird Home and Food. Families will make a simple hummingbird feeder while learning how to safely provide nectar that attracts these tiny feathered friends. It’s a fun, hands-on activity that children can take home and enjoy all summer long while watching for hummingbird visitors in their own yards.

Summer Garden Storytime continues to be a wonderful way for children to connect books with nature. Each week combines literacy, science, creativity, and outdoor exploration, giving young learners memorable experiences that inspire curiosity about the natural world. Whether your child is an avid reader, an aspiring gardener, or simply loves exploring outside, there’s something for everyone.
