James in a Pluralistic Universe - August 8, 3:00 p.m.
Allan DiBiase and Kurt Stuke, from the Doctor of Arts Program in Leadership at Franklin Pierce University, will hold a dialogue - which will include the audience.

The further title of their thoughts and study for this presentation on William James, his ideas and influences, is "On the Reinstatement of the Vague - and other Jamesian pursuits."

An earlier and very popular program, presented June 21, described James the man and his surroundings when he came to Chocorua over a hundred years ago. This DiBiase-Stuke program will lead us through some of the philosopher/teacher's thinking, in further preparation for the James Symposium to be held August 13-15, mostly at the library.

Kaffee Klatch - First Wednesday Movie
10:00 Kaffee Klatch – gather with a neighbor in the cool library.

10:30 Movie – “Julie and Julia” – the stories of two women with vastly different lives. One eventually deeply impacts the other. Excellent acting (Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci) and scenery in ‘50s France; and two other lives (Amy Adams and Chris Messina) powerfully impacted by the attacks at the World Trade Center, the Internet, and the work of Julia Child.

Written and directed by Nora Ephron, 2009.

Independence Day Books & Displays
In honor of our Independence Day, we have on display a selection of posters
from earlier American wars. We also have a number of books - fiction and
non-fiction - pertaining to our many liberties, from the not so far distant
Civil War to a new overview of war, "The Father of Us All", by Victor Davis
Hanson.

New Acquisitions
New books continue to arrive. Our newest fiction and non-fiction are on the stacks on your left as you enter the library, or displayed on the library table on your right.

New mysteries are at the leading edge of the Mystery section.

Rising from the Book - summer vacation
Adult read-alouds are suspended for the summer. They will return with a new format after Labor Day.

New DVDs
Thanks to a grant from The Tamworth Foundation, Chocorua Library has a large collection of classic films on DVD. Check them out. Rediscover chivalry, amazing dancing (not just special effects), subtle and powerful romance, and a pleasant review of the development of our culture and the culture of film.

Parenting Collection
Chocorua has a Parenting section next to the children's area. Browse while your children play with our many games, stuffed animals, and puppet theater.

Would You Like to Volunteer?
Would you like to help out at the library or do you know someone who would? Perhaps you know a student who is looking for a service project. At this time, we have a particular need for people to help with pulling cards and reshelving books. Also, if you have other ideas for ways you can help, we'd like to hear them. Please stop by the library or give us a call at 323-8610.
